"Did you look without seeing?"

I recently heard Chris Burkard's story about becoming a world class outdoor photographer listening to an interview on my favorite podcast, Chase Jarvis Live. He spoke about hist journey one of his successes being a children's book he wrote during the interview: The Boy Who Spoke to the Earth. I ordered a copy and am delighted with this story.

When I look for stories to read to our kids, I search for books that convey a message, a feeling or trigger a memory. The Boy Who Spoke to the Earth has wonderful repetition, a story of adventure, and wonderful illustrations. It is a story of appreciation and a conversation with the Earth. She asks, "Did you look without seeing?"

The books about the Paw Patrol don't give me goosebumps, so I thought I'd share this one. The best children's books have something for adults too. If your not in the market for a children's book, spoiler alert: take a moment to really look at something beautiful today. Appreciate how remarkably beautiful mountains are, or how wonderful blue the sky is, or in my case in rainy Seattle, I'll wonder about how the rain formed and where those water droplets have traveled. Imagine for a moment, you are seeing your world through the eyes of a child.
