Don't say cheese. Don't you smile. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep playing. Run free. Jump. Chase the bubbles. Get your feet dirty. Dig, dig, dig. Make a sand castle. Splash some water. Dig some more. Play. Have fun. Don't you smile.
I love to make photos of my kids being kids. They sing, they dance, they play. They throw fits. They cry. They have all the emotions just like the rest of us. They aren't always happy, though of course I enjoy showing and re-living the pictures of pure joy. The sweetest moments happen when they are being themselves, engaging in play. Of course I take portraits of them once in a while too, but then I would have to interrupt. Their outfits were not chosen for any particular reason other than the clothes were clean. It was taken in harsh, direct mid-day light because that is when we were at the beach.
These are the photos I keep. Messy circles and faces, dirty feet. And the if I'm lucky, the biggest bubbles I've ever seen.
