In the middle of winter, after putting away the garland and taking down my tree, I begin to dream of spring. I dream of longer days. Of feeling the sun on my face. And I dream of soft, delicate cherry blossoms. I imagine the wind blowing and hundreds of those, soft small petals away right before the leaves being to reemerge.
After Andy was born we dragged our newly minted family of three to the University of Washington campus to see the blossoms. They are famous and mature trees were bought by the university in 1939. We found it was swarming with crowds and it was not the serene scene you see in photographs taken at dawn. (These are the true enthusiasts). My husband may have made me promise that we would never fight those crowds again... After that, I began taking note of alternatives. I found that the many of the Seattle neighborhoods have wonderful pockets of blooming trees. No crowds. Just your normal resident dog walkers and families pushing buggies.
This photograph of my son was taken around the corner from my home. The sun had peaked out and we had a little walk. We made a little adventure. His brother climbed some trees. And there happened to be these wonderful cherry blossoms and my sweet little red head with rain boots, a mammoth rain jacket and the most adorable messy curls.
It's a wonderful time for family photographs or playful photos of the kids. But the petals come and go in an instant. Are you interested in planning a family session? Plan ahead. Reach out today and we can dream and plan for spring together.
