Ferry boat adventures await

February is not known as the best month for ice cream. But I am of the opinion that any time of year is the right time for ice cream. And even in not too far away places, little adventures await. Ice cream shops are ready with their waffle cones and delicious flavors, even in the middle of winter. A ferry boat ride is a delightful way to get to an ice cream shop.

Andy eats ice cream on a chilly, February day.

We visited Bainbridge, Washington recently, and drove on to the ferry boat. Andy was upset at first because he thought we had to remain in our vehicles. But we went up the stairs and found our usual seats overlooking the city.

The Washington State ferry boat system is the largest in the United States and connects Bainbridge and Bremerton and Vashon Island with Seattle, Anacortes with many desintations in the San Juan Islands.

While some people commute daily, for us riding the ferry is a small escape. A way to find whole new worlds only a short distance from our home. We went to Poulsbo, Washington and it is here we found ice cream.

Andy wasn't deterred by the chill, and enjoyed his cone between shivers. Golden light spilled into the city at sunset, and we walked up and down the downtown streets peeking in the windows.

A beautiful viking mural greeted us in Poulsbo, Washington,

Many more family outings await and are only a ferry boat ride away.

Scandinavian inspired facades line the streets of downtown Pouslbo.

Until our next adventure.
