Our first Halloween in our new house

About this time two years ago we moved into our little brick bungalow. We spent the first month or so of ownership cleaning it up enough to live there while we made plans to renovate. Buckets of paint and disposal of some vintage carpet was a descent start.. We even tried our hand at DIY tile work. (More on that little side project another day). But some basic cosmetic work was not enough to change the fact that we were sleeping downhill. You would think my engineer would have thought of a shim, but instead we just let the blood go to our heads.

We began working to navigate the process for making renovation plans. We found a process fraught with uncertainty and a lack of transparency on a variety of levels. We discovered the 6 to 8 week full renovations featured on HGTV aren't really strict about the reality part. Ok... so we sort of already knew that, but still we were optimistic that Jonathan and Drew would drop everything they were doing and get our house ready for us in snap. We were told it would take 12 to 18 months if we moved quickly. (Spoiler alert, it was almost 2 years later before we moved in). Still I found myself browsing the Property Brothers website to see if Seattle was on their list. Sadly they were not looking for Seattle contestants at the time.

While we hadn't moved in yet, we spent Halloween evening at the new house and discovered that our #Magnolia #Seattle neighborhood puts on a fantastic Halloween event for kids in the village. We had been living temporarily in Issaquah while we house hunted and prepared our condo for sale. (Selling a high-rise condo with two cribs packed to the gills with toys and baby gear did not exactly sell the dream, we thought. So we moved to.a 2 bedroom apartment in the Issaquah Highlands because it is the only place we could find a short term lease.) We dressed our adorable toddlers and baby up and figured he could help introduce us to the neighbors. We handed out candy to the neighbor kids, ordered Paggliacci pizza and at it on the floor of our new little house. We led the trick or treating with the two handsome fellas here and it started to feel a little more like home.
