"The Obstacle is the Way"

“In life, it doesn’t matter what happens to you or where you came from. It matters what you do with what happens and what you’ve been given. And the only way you’ll do something spectacular is by using it all to your advantage.”

~Ryan Holiday called The Obstacle is the Way

Life happened and I missed a couple days. Brett was traveling for business, the kids were in back-up care, our nanny got sick, I got sick, the baby got sick. I took her to the ER. But I'm back. I'll keep going. In the midst of this challenging stretch of days, I've just finished a great book by Ryan Holiday called The Obstacle is the Way. I've been plowing through books on Audible on my way to and from work, and it has converted a long commute into something enjoyable. This one seemed well timed and definitely worth a listen. It's amazing how the right message can reach you at the right time. Another author claimed to have a tattoo of one of the chapter titles on his arm. If it meant that much to someone, I figured it was worth a listen. It has a framework of stoicism and philosophy and tells stories of great leaders. Not how they became great leaders by having no obstacles, but because of them. .

As I've gone about my everyday, this book made me thing about how everything around me that I touch and use, from my car to the road to the signs, were once an idea. Many of them were born out of a challenge, a problem or frustration. They were designed to address an obstacle, not remove it or go around it. It connects me to the challenges I have at work, in building a house, in becoming a mother.

In my own life it reminds me to keep focus.

Chose positive transformation in the wake of obstacles.

Have persistence.

Persevere.

Be resilient.

Be one tenacious babe.
