Weekend Road Trip: Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

"Mommy, can we go on another road trip?" Andy said.

Its was music to my ears. He woke up delightfully happy on Monday morning. I feeling pretty exhausted from a two day, one night road trip to Whistler and back, but he had a traveler's high. Perhaps its an early #Wanderlust kicking in.

We stoped at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park on our way north and the twinkle lights were still up. On a drizzly afternoon in the Pacific Northwest, it was dark enough in the late afternoon under the canopy to enjoy the lights.

Only a few weeks ago, our middle child, Eli had cried and wanted to be carried across all the bridges during the first half of our walk, but returned across the big suspension bridge and did the cliff walk on his own accord. This time he walked confidently across the bridge. We got to the other side and he said calmly, "get pancakes?" He remembered the The Cabin on the other side and carried himself across the bridge with the prospect of hot chocolate and warm pancakes.

The Capilano crew gave us a scavenger hunt for our walk and Andy especially loved it. It both helped and hindered our journey, because we were one find short of the prize he was promised, and he became distraught that he was one item shy of said prize. I had dreams of eating dinner together in their beautiful log restaurant under the canopy, but it became clear that we had had our fun and it was time to call it and continue our journey north.

We talked to a couple employees at the exit gate and had a short "negotiation" to get the prizes anyway. They willingly handed over a bracelet with seeds for planting. I imagined unwittingly planting a Douglas fir in our front yard and decided we can watch it grow together in a pot inside.
