When it was his first Christmas

We decorated the little tree Andy pulled home in our wagon. Eli was just learning to walk. It was his first Christmas. The tree was lit in our little house, and he stood there looking at it in wonder. I see this picture and I recall the way he cuddled, the plumpness of his cheeks, and how his brother and now also his sister have worn that same little onesie.

He still cuddles up to me in much the same way, backing into me for a snuggle with his blankie. But he looks so much more like a little boy now than a baby. Except maybe for those delightfully soft cheeks.

This photo was taken just before he tried to eat the ornaments and pull the tree over. That is why so many of our ornaments these days are made of felt. They are mean to be touched.

This weekend we'll get our first Christmas tree in our new house. I can't wait see the delight and see it through Lia's eyes for the first time.
